QuestPro Women Foundation Statement on Transgender Day of Remembrance

On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, QuestPro Women Foundation stands in solidarity with the transgender community across Africa and the globe. We honor the lives lost to hatred, violence, and prejudice, recognizing the resilience of those who continue to live authentically despite immense challenges.

The tragic loss of transgender lives is a stark reminder of the systemic injustices that persist in our societies. These acts of violence are not only an affront to human dignity but also a betrayal of Africa’s cultural heritage. Transgender persons are not a modern phenomenon; they have always existed as part of Africa’s rich cultural fabric. Many indigenous African societies recognized and revered gender diversity, celebrating its contributions to the community. To deny this truth is to deny Africa’s history and values of inclusivity and respect for humanity.

Today, we reflect on the lives of those we have lost, but we also renew our commitment to building an Africa that embraces its diversity. An Africa where no one is killed, attacked, or excluded for being who they are. Our vision is for a continent where transgender persons are not just visible but celebrated as essential members of society, free to live, love, and thrive without fear.

QuestPro Women Foundation works to support organizations fighting Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) across the continent. Together, we are advocating for policies that protect transgender persons, educating communities to dismantle stigma, and amplifying the voices of those fighting for justice.

On this day of remembrance, we call on all African leaders, institutions, and communities to join us in creating a future free from violence and discrimination. Let us honor the lives of those we have lost by committing to a path of action, accountability, and compassion.

To the transgender community: we see you, we mourn with you, and we stand with you. You are a vital part of Africa’s story, its present, and its future. May we all strive for an Africa that celebrates the beauty of diversity and ensures safety, equality, and dignity for everyone.
