Not Another Hashtag: Turning Grief into Action During 16 Days of Activism.
QuestPro Women Foundation is honored to launch the “Not Another Hashtag” campaign as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This campaign is a stark reminder of the daily violence faced by women and girls across the African continent. It calls on us to reflect on the human lives behind the statistics, to see the faces of those whose lives have been tragically cut short, and to recognize the void left in families, communities, and societies.
Every day, women and girls experience violence in spaces meant to be safe—their homes, workplaces, and communities. For far too many, these spaces have become death traps, where their cries for help go unheard, and their lives are reduced to mere numbers. This campaign seeks to serve as a memorial wall for those lives lost, starkly reminding us of the real women behind the statistics—women with names, dreams, and stories that ended too soon due to violence.
The ongoing conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have further exacerbated the plight of women. In war-torn regions, women bear the brunt of violence, often becoming targets of unimaginable brutality. A recent report from Sudan revealed that over 100 women took their own lives to escape the horror of sexual violence. Such stories are heartbreaking and demand our collective outrage and action. They are a painful reminder that in times of conflict, women’s bodies become battlegrounds, and their humanity is disregarded.
This campaign also sheds light on other forms of violence that are often overlooked—economic oppression, cyber harassment, and workplace discrimination. These insidious forms of abuse compound the struggles of women, robbing them of their dignity, independence, and opportunities for a better future. Whether it is a woman silenced in the workplace or one targeted online for daring to speak out, the effects of gender-based violence are profound and far-reaching.
“Not Another Hashtag” is more than a campaign; it is a movement to honor the lives of those lost and to amplify the voices of survivors. It seeks to remind us all that these stories are not distant tragedies but pressing realities that require urgent attention. It is a call to action for everyone across the continent to take a stand against gender-based violence.
We invite you to participate in this campaign by sharing these stories, liking posts, reposting content, and starting conversations within your communities. Let’s ensure that these stories are not forgotten, that these women are not reduced to numbers, and that their lives inspire us to fight for a world free from violence.
Together, we can turn mourning into action, hashtags into movements, and stories into lasting change. Let us honor their lives by committing to a future where every woman and girl can live free from violence and fear.
